03/07/06 THE RETURN OF BINKIES!!

Last night I met up with Barbara, one of my friends from the OCS forum and Myspace. We went to the Whistle Binkies open mic night and each played a 15 minute slot. I played Foxys Folk Faced (OCS), Without you (A new Song), Expectations and finished it off with some Brown Eyed Girl. New Song went down well and I was pleased with it. No mistakes last night so I was happy! Barbara played an excellent wee set including a bit of OCS!

28/03/06 Whistle Binkies Open Mic Night

Played the open mic nite at Whistle Binkies last night. Easy set it went well. Forgot the words to push the button but luckily I hadnt started singing it yet! 4 songs played were Robin Hood, The other Side, Because I love you and Why does it always rain on me.

Will be back at binkies soon for another shot, so watch this space!

03/03/06 - LINLITHGOW ROSE TALENT CONTEST!

Last night I played in the Linlithgow Rose Talent contest. After arriving I pulled out number four so I was four out of seven which made me bang in the middle on the line up. A perfect choice! It was another five males and one female. WIth 2 other acts using their own instruments (one of who was also using the backing band) the pressure was on.

When my slot came for the first half I had to perform two songs. The first song I played was a cover of "Robin Hood" by OCS. I have to say I NAILED IT!!! I was very happy. I then played "The Other Side", its first public performance, and the crowd seemed to really be behind me. My confidence was high and the other singers were mainly mediocre, apart from 2 who I thought were outstanding.

Into the second half and i was up again. I started with "Because I Love you" which also went down very well with the crowd. I then went for my finish with Travis "Why does it always rain on me". It went well apart form i missed the first Bm, but i recovered and finished the song confidently. I had many people who i had never met supporting me and I felt I had did enough to get through. Unfortunately the judges put through 3 other people who to be honest weren't the best. In particular one older gentleman with the name "Zoom", who couldn't sing a note but because he came out in the second half wearing an elvis costume he made it through. If thats talent then i am the pope.

On the plus side I made a few contacts with fellow musicians and we plan to keep in contact. I got a great support from the crowd and I especially want to thank the table behind me that gave me the bottle of vodka they won in the raffle!! Thank you, your support was appreciated.

I was happy with my overall performance and we all know there was a bit of old fixing going on, but i do it for my love of music and not for some old farts judging me in a social club!

KEEP THE FAITH!

16/01/06

I have just started to sober up after a small set at an open mic nite last night. After being introduced as "The guy who was so talented we asked him back" i have to say my set wasnt the best. I had maybe overindugled in the alcoholic beverages available and my guitar work was shoddy. I wasnt helped by a hard crowd who didnt even sing "oh oh la la" on day we caught the train. Being the professional I am, i carried on and even played "student life".

Lesson learned - Dont get "TOO" drunk before a gig. I do apologise but it has not stopped me from continuing on with my plan! So I will be back again although maybe a bit more sober!

BELIEVE WHAT YOU NEED TO BELIEVE!
